Bongo collection, 1869-1975.

Collection focuses mainly on the Bongo Diorama of Cold Spring Harbor Village as it was ca. 1850, displayed in the Whaling Museum. Included are 35 early photographs of Cold Spring Harbor Village which served as the basis for the diorama, 1870-1940; photograph of the diorama, 1975; copy of a manuscript on construction and authentication of the diorama; negative and photocopies of the diorama plaque; diorama construction notes, which include 26 maps of Cold Spring, abstracts of the censuses of 1800, 1840, 1850, and 1860, photocopies of pages from the 1868-69 Cold Spring Directory, and a photocopy of plans for the ship "Morgan."
